TORONTO, Ont. – Garbage pickup in city’s west end makes the switch to a private contractor, Tuesday.
Pickering, Ont.-based Green for Life Environmental Corporation will handle all routes between Yonge Street and the Humber River at an annual cost of around $17 million.
City officials estimate the change will save Toronto taxpayers $78 million over its seven-year lifespan.
“This is a great day for the City of Toronto,” Mayor Rob Ford said. “Acting on my campaign promise to contract out appropriate services and to save the City money, I am pleased to welcome GFL as the waste collection provider in this area of the city.”
Collection schedules do not change; however, residents are asked to put their garbage out by 7 a.m. on their scheduled day, as collection time may vary with the new company.
Garbage pickup in Etobicoke is already done by a private company.
